(I wrote this mid January when San Diego was having flash floods. I can't believe I'm only posting it now!)
My husband is a big fan of disaster films and I’ve been subjected to my fair share over the past decade. If I’ve learned anything for this genre of film it’s that the end of the world as we know it will begin with a shift in the Earth’s crust. You can imagine that the rash of earthquakes that have been popping up lately have caused a lift of the eyebrow over here at Domestically Challenged, especially since they’ve been coupled with what our weather people have described as “rainfall of epic proportions” in San Diego. The rain is supposed to last all week and they are calling for flash flooding in certain parts of the city. Needless to say, I wouldn’t be phased if Jake Gyllenhaal or Dennis Quaid were to show up. The orange colour of the sky is also less than comforting. Any minute, I’m expecting a lightening shower to set all the trees around me on fire. (I keep telling myself that the end is near.)
So I’m eating bread. If the end of the world is coming, I am going to be eating carbs. I’m also going to knit. I’m still working on the baby blanket I started for Baby D this Fall. I’m made a promise to myself that every time I sit down to knit that I will do one row of the lace edging. Currently, there are only 6 rows left. Six long, brutal rows. Luckily, it looks beautiful. (I keep telling myself that the end is near.)
I’ve also fallen head over heels with the Tea Leaves cardigan. I want to make it in a deep purple colour. Swoon. Ideally, I would have it finished by mid-March when I meet up with my family for a ski vacation, but I really don’t see it happening unless I win the lottery and find myself with a lot of spare time. Then again, if the world is ending, it’s a bit late to order the yarn. Has anyone knit with Madeline Tosh Merino. It looks devine!
(What about the Jane Richmond sweater you are knitting and the mitten pattern you promised to post?
How can you chastise me about my broken promises at a time like this? The world is about to end!)
[Added later: I can't find Madeline Tosh Merino (colour Dahlia) anywhere!!]
